Gin and cucumber would have got you a strange look at the bar twenty years ago; now, it’s as normal as a slice of lemon. Most of this is down to Hendrick’s, the self-proclaimed gin oddity burst onto the scene in 2001. Two differently designed stills each use the same twelve botanicals, one highlighting mouth filling juniper and spice notes, the other extracting fragrant aromas from elderflower and orange peel. The two are expertly blended and then rose and cucumber extracts are added, to create a clean, floral, refreshing gin that nonetheless has a robust juniper backbone. Slice the cucumber and make yourself a delightfully odd G&T.
